Every week in California, a homeowner signs a contract with a contractor who has no valid license, a suspended bond, or an open fraud investigation. Most of them won’t find out until after they’ve handed over a deposit.

I’m David — a bootstrapped California native, father of four, based in Sacramento. The one thing I genuinely can’t stand is watching people get scammed or taken advantage of.

After reading story after story about homeowners getting ripped off — Anchored Tiny Homes abandoning 450+ homeowners with $12.8 million in losses, Multitaskr taking $15 million and building nothing, 600+ California homeowners defrauded across multiple companies — I decided to do something about it. We documented what happened to those homeowners, and the contractors responsible, in our ADU contractor fraud series.

In my free time, I spent months manually pulling CSLB records, cross-checking license numbers, and vetting contractors one by one across California. It’s tedious work. But someone had to do it.

VerifiedADU is the result. Every builder listed here has been checked against active CSLB records. I built a system that runs automatically every night so the information stays current — not just accurate on the day it was posted.

I’m not a corporation. I’m one person who got tired of watching homeowners make $150,000 to $400,000 decisions without any real way to verify who they were hiring. These are the same decisions my own family and friends will face. The kind you may be facing right now.

This directory doesn’t guarantee outcomes — that’s between you and the contractor. What I can guarantee is that every builder here passed the same verification standard, applied the same way, every single day.

I built this for us. Not for contractors, not for investors — for the homeowner who just wants to know the person they’re hiring is legitimate.
